Tru Hoop

Teris Bourgeois
Founder & CEO of Tru Hoop
I didn’t grow up with much -- just a love for sports, a dream, and a single mother who pushed me to be more. I was raised in Galveston, where life had its challenges, and a storm eventually forced us to move in 2004. But basketball gave me a way out -- a reason to keep going, to stay focused, to believe. It took me places I never imagined, earning scholarships and experiences that shaped the man I am today.
Before any coach, my first mentor in the game was my aunt Kristin Bourgeois-- a Hall of Famer and proud alumna of O’Connell High School. She taught me how to play. But more than that, she taught me to respect the game, to work hard, and to carry myself with pride. That foundation changed everything for me.
That’s why I do this.
Not to train every kid I can -- but to develop the right ones the right way.
When I work with a young athlete, I’m not just teaching drills. I’m building discipline, mindset, and confidence. I care about who they are when the lights are off and no one’s watching. I care about their future as people, not just players.
Tru Hoop was created to give kids real opportunities -- on and off the court. I don’t just want to create hoopers. I want to create leaders. Some kids come in with talent. Others just need someone to believe in them. I’ve been both. So I built a system that makes room for both.
Basketball is just the tool.
The real win is helping them grow into strong, focused, respectful, and relentless young people.
This is bigger than training.
This is about transformation -- in their game, in their mindset, yand in their life.
